The Dream Machine — High-End Build (~$2,565)

The fastest gaming processor on the planet paired with a monster graphics card. This is top-tier 1440p and 4K gaming, premium parts everywhere it counts — about as fast as a gaming PC gets in 2026.

A quick word on prices (October 2026)

The worldwide memory and storage shortage (AI data centers are buying up all the chips) is still going strong. 32GB of RAM that cost about $80 in 2025 now runs $420–600, and 2TB drives that used to cost $120–150 now sit near $369. Memory and storage alone add roughly $400–500 versus what this build would've cost historically — which is why it lands over our original $2,200 target. Honest prices, honestly explained. The trims below can pull it back.

⚠ Heads up: fake Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPUs on Amazon

Counterfeit 9800X3D processors have been reported on Amazon. When you buy this chip, only buy from a listing sold and shipped by Amazon.com itself — check the "Sold by" line on the product page before checking out. If it's anyone else, don't risk it.

The Parts List

Buy exactly this list and you're done thinking about compatibility. Prices were current as of October 2026.

PartModelWhy this onePrice
Processor (CPU) AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D The brain of the PC — and the fastest gaming processor on the planet in 2026. Its secret is "3D V-Cache," a giant slab of extra high-speed memory stacked right on the chip that games absolutely love. If you can only splurge on one part, make it this one. (And see the warning above about fakes — buy only from Amazon.com itself.) $442.95 View on Amazon
Motherboard MSI MAG B850 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI The circuit board everything plugs into. Wi-Fi 7 built in (the latest and fastest wireless), strong power delivery for the hungry processor, four SSD slots for future storage, and beginner-friendly features that make the build easier. It costs less than the fancier X870 boards while giving up almost nothing. $209.99 View on Amazon
Memory (RAM) V-COLOR Manta XSky RGB 32GB (2×16GB) DDR5-6000 32GB of the fast stuff at the sweet-spot speed for Ryzen, with low latency (that's CL30 — lower means snappier). This was the cheapest kit we could verify during the shortage, priced at Newegg — the Amazon button searches the exact model name. The RGB lighting is a bonus; you can turn it off. $460 View on Amazon
Storage (SSD) WD Black SN850X 2TB A top-tier drive with a 1,200 TBW endurance rating — TBW means "terabytes written," basically how much data the drive can handle over its lifetime. This one could last you decades. The motherboard has its own heatsinks, so the bare model (no heatsink) is perfect. Install it in the top slot — it's wired straight to the processor for maximum speed. $369 View on Amazon
Graphics card (GPU) Sapphire PULSE Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB The part that draws your games — and the high-end value king right now. It's within a few percent of NVIDIA's much pricier RTX 5070 Ti in most games, for hundreds less. 16GB of video memory (the card's own memory) means it's ready for demanding 4K games. It uses normal 8-pin power plugs, too — no weird new connector needed. ~$820 View on Amazon
Power supply (PSU) MSI MAG A850GL 850W, 80+ Gold 850 watts of clean power with a 10-year warranty. This system can pull about 600W at absolute maximum, so there's real headroom. Fully modular (only plug in the cables you need), and it includes the newer 12V-2×6 cable for future graphics cards. $109.99 View on Amazon
Case Lian Li Lancool 216-X The box it all lives in — and a genuinely pleasant one to build in. Famous for airflow, panels pop off easily, cable routing is generous, and there's room for everything. Your first build deserves a case that doesn't fight you. $118.80 View on Amazon
CPU cooler Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE ARGB Keeps the processor cool — and cools like units three times its price, for about $33. It handles the 9800X3D easily. The ARGB version adds tasteful lighting you can turn off. ~$33 View on Amazon

Will it all fit together? Yes.

Bring the price down

  • Watch for RAM sales. Memory is the most inflated part of this build — catching a 32GB DDR5-6000 kit under $450 is the biggest single saving available.
  • Shop the 2TB SSD. If a quality 2TB drive dips near $350, grab it — you won't feel any difference in games.
  • Consider the Lancool 216 RGB variant (~$100) instead of the 216-X. Saves about $19 for essentially the same case.

What this build is (and isn't) for

This is a no-compromise machine: 1440p at high refresh rates, 4K at high settings, streaming, video editing, 3D work — all effortless. It's more than you need if you only game at 1080p (the Budget or Mid-Range builds will make you just as happy). And if you specifically want NVIDIA's features, the RTX 5070 Ti (around $1,200) is the direct step up.
