About BuildAPCGuide
We're builders, not salespeople.
This site exists for one reason: building your own PC is the single best upgrade most people will ever make to their computing life — better value, better parts, and a machine you actually understand. But the internet's advice for beginners is a mess. Half of it is written for people who already know what they're doing, and the other half is trying to sell you something.
So here's our deal, in plain English:
Who this site is for
You, if you've never opened a PC case. Every guide here assumes zero experience. We explain every part, translate every spec into what it actually means for you, and never assume you know the jargon. If a first-timer would squint at a sentence, we rewrite the sentence.
How we pick parts
On merit. We research what's actually the best value at each price point right now — real prices, real availability, real-world performance — and we check that every part in a build works with every other part. Then we tell you the honest truth about prices, including when the market is terrible (like the great memory shortage of 2026) and what you can do about it.
What we'll never do
- No paid placements. Nobody can pay to get their part on our lists. If a part is here, it's because it's good.
- No inflated claims. We won't tell you a budget card "destroys 4K" or that you need 64GB of RAM to browse the web.
- No pretending prices are fine when they aren't. If RAM costs triple what it should, we'll say so — and suggest ways around it.
How we keep the lights on
The "buy" buttons on our parts lists are affiliate links — mostly to Amazon. If you buy through one, we earn a small commission, and it costs you nothing extra. That's what pays for the research and the writing. It doesn't change which parts we recommend: the lists are picked first, the links come second. Our privacy policy explains this in more detail, because Amazon requires us to, and because it's the right thing to do.
What we'd tell a friend
If you were standing at our workbench asking what to buy, we'd tell you: the Mid-Range build is the sweet spot for most people. The Budget build is genuinely great if money's tight — don't let anyone shame you for building sensibly. And the High-End build? Only if you'll actually use it. The best PC is the one that fits your life, not the most expensive one you can afford.
Now go build something. The guide's right here.
